The Texas International Produce Association announced the inaugural Viva Fresh Winery Tour in nearby Grapevine during this year’s event on April 21. Sponsored by Sunfed and Lakeway, the tour will serve as an alternative to Viva’s already popular golf outing.

Recent stories in major media outlets remind consumers that potatoes "loaded with nutrients like vitamin C, potassium and B6 and fiber" are "uber-healthy."

The Eastern Produce Council announced the members of its 2022 Leadership Class. The 14 selected up-and-coming produce professionals will benefit from professional development opportunities both in the field and classroom.

The respected program delivers growth and knowledge experiences in a variety of venues. “The goal is to provide those selected for the program the chance to gain valuable insight from both classroom and field experience,” said Susan McAleavey Sarlund, EPC executive director.

Mark Smith, general manager of the Philadelphia Wholesale Produce Market, was selected by the National Association of Produce Market Managers as Market Manager of the Year at its annual conference, held this month in New Orleans.

NAPMM’s Market Manager of the Year award winner is selected annually by the NAPMM executive board and recognizes a market manager for their work and accomplishments at their respective market. All entries are judged on overall accomplishments, with measurable outcomes being heavily weighed.

A large crowd turned out for the Bozzuto's Independent Retailer Conference, held March 1-2 at Mohegan Sun in Uncasville, CT, a new venue for the event. As always, a great many produce vendors from all over the country were on hand to display the latest products.

"It drew a lot of interest," said Greg Veneziano, vice president of perishables at the wholesaler grocer. "We had a great turnout, and it was a great show."
