BrightFarms announced the opening of its first greenhouse in Texas, bringing its fresh, locally grown leafy greens to the south central and Southwest for the first time. Building on the recent unveiling of its Illinois greenhouse, the Lorena, TX, site is the second of three regional hubs BrightFarms is opening in 2024, marking an ambitious and rapid expansion.
 

SL Produce, a leading grower-exporter of Mexican vegetables based in Los Mochis, Mexico, has revealed major plans for expansion, building on the successful launch of the company’s Tenderland quality seal in the U.S. market and coinciding with a bumper crop of products heading into 2025.

Southeastern Grocers Inc. surprised local customers by hosting pop-up giveaways throughout the Southeast. The grocer distributed $50,000 in gift cards, plus free private label products across five store locations.

The first 100 customers that arrived at each of the designated Harveys Supermarket and Winn-Dixie locations received a free $100 gift card and reusable tote bag stuffed with items from the grocer’s award-winning line of Own Brand products.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers at the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas port of entry recently intercepted more than $2.6 million in cocaine concealed within a shipment of peppers.

“Drug trafficking organizations don’t take holiday weekends off, and neither do we,” said Port Director Carlos Rodriguez, Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. “As these two significant narcotics interceptions aptly illustrate, CBP maintains its enforcement posture regardless of the time of year.”

There’s no shortage of commentary on the breakdown of the paper ceiling, or the degree requirement as a cost of entry for jobs.
