New Jersey peach growers are poised to provide you with a good crop of sweet, full-sized peaches in 2022, and the New Jersey Department of Agriculture is positioned to help growers and retailers get the word out that Jersey Fresh peaches are in season.

The NJDA will once again be working alongside the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council to drive consumer demand. From late-June through early September, our Jersey Fresh growers will be supplying harvests of yellow and white peaches throughout the Northeast.

There was a time not so long ago when certain tropical fruits were not mainstays of the typical American diet. The pandemic, at least temporarily, transformed the manner in which business was conducted across many industries. Ours was no different. The “Butterfly Effect” manifested itself in the floral industry in a number of ways. Home bound consumers greatly increased the demand for items such as baking pans, measuring cups and even wine and spirit bottles, thus putting a tremendous strain on glass production, leading to a prolonged shortage of certain styles of vases. Restaurant demand for paper take-out bags roiled the market for other paper products such as cub and gift bags etc.

David Hickman, the fifth-generation operator of the Horntown, VA-based company, has seen a lot though his decades in the business, and believes that the issues faced by growers in 2022 are as challenging as ever — and that’s not even taking into account the impact the pandemic had for the most part.

On the morning of Saturday, May 21, 53 golfers from the produce industry teed off at the beautiful Royce Brook Golf Club in Hillsborough, NJ, for NAPAR's 23rd annual Pete Class Memorial Golf Tournament.  While the day was the warmest of the year so far, everyone enjoyed the event. The 8:30 a.m. shotgun start was preceded by breakfast; the day finished with an awards luncheon and raffle. 

SpartanNash has acquired Shop-N-Save Food Centers, a three-store grocery chain in northwestern Michigan. Upon close of the sale, the Benzonia, Fremont and Ludington, MI, grocery stores have been converted to SpartanNash’s popular Family Fare brand, continuing employment for all now-SpartanNash associates and expanding offerings available to shoppers.

Founded in 1973, SNS had been a food distribution customer of SpartanNash for nearly 25 years.
