The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation has distributed more than $775,000 in grants to 294 nonprofit organizations across the omnichannel retailer’s 10-state footprint. The foundation focuses on fighting child hunger, helping partner organizations increase their “fresh” capacity so families can put nutritious meals on their tables and providing nutrition education to support the health and wellness of Food Lion’s neighbors.

Magic Sun Farms believes that growing in high-tech greenhouses allows the company to produce the best-tasting, highest-quality tomatoes and bell peppers, while keeping a small overall footprint and using the least possible natural resources.

“As our slogan says, we are good from the roots,” said Laura Huerta Morones, marketing manager for the Richmond, VA-based company. “We grow 100 percent Mexican crops, which we care for with love and passion from the seed to the fruit, and we harvest, pack, and distribute with pride to our customers.”

Fresh Express, a brand leader in value-added fresh salads, is not letting global supply chain woes stand in the way of achieving its North American sustainability goals. According to Vice President Fabian Pereria, who directs sustainability efforts, the company has recently adopted the use of reduced gauge corrugate to circumvent shortages and also contribute to increased sustainability.

Last fall grower-owned-and-operated Chelan Fresh took stock of where it had come from, who it was, and where it was going, it embarked on a series of individual grower interviews, feedback sessions and core identity “excavation” work. As the process unfolded, a story emerged that was distilled down to two simple words, transformative yet simple: Joyfully Grown.

Chilean fresh blueberry exporters have reached an agreement to implement a charter service to the U.S. market called the "Blueberry Express.”  This special service to the East Coast will begin in Week 49 and continue throughout the 2022-23 season, with less than two weeks transit time to the U.S. market.
