Legend Produce, a leading grower and marketer of melons, has been working diligently with its partners for the past few months to expand its exclusive Origami cantaloupe melon program. The multi-generation grower-shipper expects volume to increase by roughly 30 percent compared to last season, as it continues to promote the Origami cantaloupe across new and existing markets.

The Arizona-based company, together with its partners, conducts over 50 trials per year with the goal of bringing new products to market.

Martori Farms, a premier grower and shipper of melons, acquired Santa Rosa Produce. The merging of the two well-known farms will increase the supply for high-demand melons and create more than 500 additional jobs at Martori Farms.

The general melon market remains steady. Cantaloupes are in good supply with nine and 12 sizes being readily available. Honeydews are procurable in five and six sizes. Both are out of Mexico and Central America.

Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc., one of the world’s leading vertically integrated producers, distributors and marketers of fresh-cut fruits and vegetables, is currently harvesting a variety of melons, including cantaloupe, honeydew, specialty Harper and Tara melons, and watermelon just in time for prime melon season. Once harvested, the produce giant ships the melons using its six recently purchased energy-efficient container vessels, which will help streamline delivery amid the global supply chain issues.
