Index Fresh has enhanced its supply chain strategy for delivering excellent customer service and growing sales with a new interactive website plus rebrand of its AvoTerra avocado label. The new website drop (indexfresh.com) will be unveiled in advance of the Organic Produce Summit (OPS), July 9 and 10, in Monterey, CA, (booth No. 1000) along with attractive, fresh packaging for the AvoTerra brand.

Avocados originated in Mexico, Guatemala, and the West Indies around 10,000 years ago. They were first cultivated over 7,000 years ago in central Mexico. The flavorful guacamole dip and spread was created by the Aztecs and originated in Mexico. It was known as avocado sauce. The avocado was also called alligator pear.

Avocados are among the most popular commodities in the produce department, yet for all their popularity the category has remained essentially flat for the last five years despite tens of millions of dollars invested in promoting the fruit.

Why? For many, the feeling is that category growth is largely dependent on the diversification of supply to meet rising demand.

The Colombia Avocado Board partnered with Weis Markets Inc. to launch the Heart of Colombia Avocado Display Contest, a retail campaign designed to drive consumer excitement and increase impulse avocado purchases. 

Marketing efforts for California avocados are running at full steam this spring and in support for California Avocado Month in June.

Avocados from Peru will generate the lion’s share of excitement for the avocado category this summer via one-of-a-kind promotions, including a partnership with the Detroit Tigers, one of the hottest teams in Major League Baseball.

Xavier Equihua, president and chief executive officer of the Peruvian Avocado Commission, said this year’s program includes a trifecta of events that incorporates classic tactics and experiential marketing.
