The North Carolina Sweetpotato Commission Inc. is a nonprofit corporation made up of more than 400 sweetpotato growers along with the packers, processors and business associates that support them. 

“The sole purpose of the commission is to increase sweetpotato consumption through education, promotional activities, research and honorable horticultural practices among its producers,” said Michelle Grainger, executive director of the commission. 

Healthy Family Project has named Rebecca Waxman social media manager and the newest addition to the cause marketing organization’s digital marketing team. Waxman will lead Healthy Family Project’s social media strategy and implementation under Tracy Shaw, senior digital marketing manager.

Food Lion and Novant Health are collaborating to launch a food pharmacy pilot program at Novant Health New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington, NC.

The pilot program provides qualified participants access to nutritious food and encourages them to make healthy lifestyle choices to achieve sustained health. Throughout the two-year pilot program, Food Lion will distribute nearly 3,000 boxes that contain nutritious food. Qualified patients will be determined, in part, through assessments by Novant Health dietitians and team members.

The California Avocado Commission anticipates its fiscal year 2022-23 harvest will come in at 257 million pounds of avocados, a slight decrease compared to the 2021-22 season crop volume of 276 million pounds. When announcing the crop outlook, CAC also unveiled its marketing plans for 2023.“The recent California rainfall has been welcomed by our growers throughout all districts,” said Jeff Oberman, president of CAC.
