NWPB takes watermelon promotions to new heights

Gordon Hunt has promoted watermelon in several unique locations over the years for the National Watermelon Promotion Board, including Japan and the furthest eastern point in North America.

However, his most recent promotion has taken watermelons to new heights — 8,800 feet to be exact.

"The Art of Living with Marilu Henner," a prominent lifestyle show hosted by stage and TV star Marilu Henner, will feature Smith's Farm, a Presque Isle, ME- based broccoli and potato grower-shipper, on an upcoming episode in a spot titled “Healthier Living — From the Farm to the Table.” The segment, which is part of the Healthy Living through Healthier Choices series, is expected to air in early November.

Administration officials agree to look at how it releases pesticide residue data

WASHINGTON -- Obama administration officials have agreed to look into how it packages the release of annual pesticide data, which can be "misused" by consumer groups to trumpet fruit and vegetables as unsafe to eat, according to Ray Gilmer, vice president of communications for the United Fresh Produce Association.
