US Foods Holding Corp. announced a strategic agreement with Kalera, one of the world’s leading hydroponic indoor vertical farming companies. This is US Foods’ largest vertical farming relationship to date. The agreement underscores US Foods’ commitment to bringing foodservice operators a broad assortment of high-quality produce, year-round.

Naturipe’s blackberry growing season in Georgia is set to start mid-May and will last through early July with high-quality, delicious berries. Peak volumes are expected through the month of June.

As shoppers continue to seek out packaged produce, Philadelphia-based Ryeco supports customers by offering more in this area. “With labor and supply chain issues, the prepackaged food business is increasing and will continue doing so,” said Filindo Colace, vice president of operations for Ryeco. “Finding good labor will continue to be difficult. Supply chain constraints will continue to be challenging. We see retailers, foodservice and consumers looking for more prepackaged foods and produce.”

Marketing professionals from across the produce industry gathered in San Diego for the International Fresh Produce Association's BrandStorm conference. The event was kicked off with a poolside reception on Monday evening, which proved to be an excellent networking opportunity for all. Rigorous educational sessions began the following morning.

United Natural Foods Inc. Chief Operating Officer Eric Dorne will retire from the company effective Oct. 29. Dorne has spent 46 years in the grocery industry and the past 11 years in senior leadership roles at UNFI. He will continue to oversee UNFI’s operations and fulfillment network, as well as lead information technology through his retirement date, working closely with both his direct reports and the senior leadership team to ensure a smooth transition.
