That is what officials at Diamond Blueberries want consumers to understand as they get ready to harvest what they expect to be another excellent crop of blueberries from New Jersey this month.

The Organic Produce Summit announced a new speaker session highlighting sustainable packaging to run July 11 at the comprehensive one-stop-shop event for retailers and buyers in the organic produce industry. The session, Sustainable Packaging: Reducing Plastics in the Produce Department, will focus on how produce packaging is changing and evolving alongside the industry’s increased emphasis on sustainability.

Walmart's new partnership with Agritask aims to enable sourcing managers to make more well-informed decisions on seasonal fruit crop yields such as cherries and blackberries.

The companies will pilot a technology solution in collaboration with Walmart Global Tech’s Sparkubate program.

This first-of-its-kind Agritask initiative aims to secure surety of supply, reduce food waste and guarantee fresh produce for shoppers. Pending the pilot results, the retailer may consider leveraging Agritask solutions and insights at scale for a second season.

AgroFresh Solutions recently named Kent Shoemaker to its board of directors and appointed him chairman of the board.

“As we continue to expand our products and services for additional crops, we remain committed to helping our customers meet their post-harvest challenges at every step in the fresh produce supply chain,” said Clint Lewis, CEO of AgroFresh.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has cited Frozen Food Development Inc. in Lancaster, PA, for failure to pay for produce. USDA filed a complaint in January 2023 alleging that Frozen Food failed to pay $2.479 million to 22 sellers for produce that was purchased, received and accepted in interstate and foreign commerce from July 2021 to June 2022.
