The United Fresh Produce Association is joining forces with the Food Marketing Institute Independent Operators Committee to deliver increased value to independent supermarkets at this year's co-located FMI and United Fresh shows in Dallas, April 30 to May 3.

BJ's Wholesale Club announced April 10 that its locally grown produce program, Farm to Club, will be available in each of its 195 clubs in all 15 states where its clubs are located. The program, which provides BJ's Members with quality, fresh produce from their state's local farms, is rolling out this spring and summer.

The Harovin Sundown pear is a new variety bred in Canada that has firm flesh and a light-green skin.

Froerer Farms Inc., parent company of Owyhee Produce in Nyssa, OR, recently purchased 1,300 acres of additional farmland adjacent to the Snake River in Oregon's Treasure Valley.

According to a release from Owyhee Produce, the purchase "is a landmark moment for the Froerer family and an affirmation of its commitment to provide leadership in sustainable farming practices."

The release goes on to say, "Dedication to sustainability empowers Froerer Farms to grow and ship safe, high-quality and nutritious food, while reducing negative environmental impact, 365 days a year."

As an exhibitor at the Canadian Produce Marketing Association’s convention and expo in Calgary, Chelan Fresh Marketing of Chelan, WA, sees the venue as a benefit on multiple fronts.
