NEWPORT, RI — The New England Produce Council held its 2014 Produce & Floral Expo in a new location — Newport, RI — and at a new time of the year — September. So it seems appropriate that the council held its trade show in a new and different setting: outside under tents.

Salinas, CA-based Mann Packing announced the addition of Terence Billingsley to its sales team.

Christopher Ranch in Gilroy, CA, was founded over 50 years ago. The company introduced its organic line in 1997. Patsy Ross, vice president of marketing for the company, said that its line of organic products has grown consistently since then.

“Today our organic line includes numerous options in fresh, peeled and jarred categories,” said Ross. “And we offer organic shallots, also in fresh, peeled and jarred options, organic elephant garlic, organic ginger, organic pearl, Cipolline and boiler onions.”

This season, Borton & Sons Inc., headquartered in Yakima, WA, plans to add two new apple varieties to its manifest. The company is a premium grower, packer and shipper of high-quality apples, pears and cherries with more than a century of industry expertise. The fourth generation of family members currently spearheads operations.

SIDNEY, OH — Freshway Foods announced Sept. 12 that Devon Beer has been named president and chief operating officer of Freshway Foods. In his new role, Beer will lead all of the day-to-day activities of both Freshway Foods and Freshway Logistics. The company's executive team will report directly to Beer, and he will lead execution of the company's strategic plans, including revenue growth and expense control initiatives.
