MAHWAH, NJ — Merle Axelrod, president of Supreme Cuts, here, is “very excited” about the upcoming New York Produce Show & Conference, as it gives her company a chance to showcase its innovative products right in its own backyard.

Duda Farm Fresh Foods, headquartered in Oviedo, FL, is currently promoting its “Radishes Reinvented” radish products, and will be featuring the line at the New York Produce Show at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center North Hall on Dec. 2-4.

“We will be exhibiting at Booth No. 602 at the show,” said Nichole Towell, marketing director for the company.

“And we want to tell visitors how to reduce their radish shrink,” she continued. “‘Dandy’ fresh-cut radishes are available year-round for retailers’ nutrition and convenience seeking shoppers.”

“The New York Produce Show is a good expo,” said Louis Hymel, director of purchasing and marketing for Spice World Inc., headquartered in Orlando, FL.

“It provides us with a great opportunity to see many of our customers in the region,” he said. “We invite all visitors to see our wide selection of products at Booth No. 477.”

Spice World has a long family tradition in the garlic and spice categories. The company was founded in 1949 by Andy Caneza, and it is still family owned and operated today. Many of the third generation family members are now active in the business.

On Nov. 3, Mastronardi Produce/Sunset announced in a press release that Men’s Health magazine dubbed the “Sunset” “Kumato” the best tomato for men.

Chief Executive Officer of Mastronardi/Sunset, Paul Mastronardi, stated in the press release, “’Kumato’ is one of ‘Sunset’s’ best-selling signature brands. We knew we had found an amazing product years ago because it was so unique looking and great tasting. The ‘Kumato’ is very balanced, not too acidic, with a mysterious and smoky flavor.”

In 2013, about 170,000 truckloads of fruits and vegetables from Mexico came into the United through the ports of entry in South Texas, making it the leading state in the country for imports of fresh produce.

“About 40-45 percent of the fresh produce consumed in the United States is imported,” said Bret Erickson, president and chief executive officer of the Texas International Produce Association, based in Mission, TX. “More than 50 percent of those imports come through Texas.”

Frieda’s Specialty Produce, based in Los Alamitos, CA, offers Green Dragon apples with labels to distinguish these sweet, juicy, and fragrant heirloom apples from other green apples. The labels also inform shoppers that the naturally freckled skin is quite normal.
