DJ Forry Co. has expanded its sales team through the addition of Jeff Weaver and Hunter Teafatiller, both of whom will utilize their produce backgrounds to develop new customer relationships and enhance current long-term partnerships.

As the stonefruit deal was transitioning from Chile to California, North American Produce Buyers on the Ontario Food Terminal in Toronto was reporting great quality and movement for the 2015 crop.

Larry Davidson, who manages the operation with his brother, Steven, told The Produce News in late March, “Both the stone fruit and grape deals are great this year. All our fruit is out of Chile right now, and the stone fruit will begin out of California the first week of April. In May we’ll see grapes from California and Mexico.”

On April 7, a $41 million lawsuit was filed by former Cold Train executives against Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway for damages that put the refrigerated rail car service out of business in August.

Daniel Appel, a partner at the Wenatchee law firm Foreman, Appel, Hotchkiss & Zimmerman PLLC, which is representing Cold Train, told The Produce News that Cold Train’s business plan was based on a 2009 agreement with BNSF to provide special 72-hour service from the heart of Washington’s fruit-producing area to Chicago.

Cutrale-Safra completed its acquisition of Chiquita earlier this year, and since that time several executives have left and the company announced it will be closing its headquarters in Charlotte, NC. Brian W. Kocher, who had been serving as Chiquita's president and chief executive officer, and Joseph B. Johnson, the company’s vice president and chief accounting officer, are the latest to announce their departures from the company.
