Whole Foods Market earned an A- rating in the latest edition of "The Better World Shopping Guide," an annual book designed to provide consumers with social and environmental responsibility insight into companies across a wide range of industries. Walmart was the lowest-ranked retailer.

Grocery retailers nationwide set out their sharpest spud displays for the Idaho Potato Commission’s 2015 retail competition, which was extended from four weeks to eight weeks for the first time so that ample shipments of Idaho potatoes would be available.

KIKU apples set supermarket sales records for April, leading performance in the apple category, according to data from Nielsen Perishables Group. For the most recent four-week period ending April 29, U.S. supermarket sales of KIKU increased by 484 percent, the largest increase in the apple category.

Nominations are now being accepted for the annual Produce Marketing Association’s Impact Award: Excellence in Packaging, recognizing companies throughout the supply chain that are maximizing opportunities to sell more fresh produce and floral through innovative packaging.

Of the contributions, 20 will be showcased as finalists at the PMA Fresh Summit Convention & Expo in Atlanta Oct. 23-25. From there, expert judges will use a set of criteria to choose five winning submissions. The opportunity to submit an entry for consideration will end Thursday, July 30.

Zespri has launched its 2015 kiwifruit season in North America, and the company will focus on and promote its newest variety, SunGold, which will be produced and sold in greater volumes this year.
