Farm Pak Products began operations in 1969 as a sales team for the produce grown at Barnes Farming, selling sweet potatoes directly to buyers along the East Coast. Over the course of 50-plus years, the sister company has grown into one of the largest and most reliable marketers of sweet potatoes world-wide.

BOSTON — The New England Produce Council celebrated its 21st anniversary at its 2021 Produce, Floral & Foodservice Expo, held Sept. 29-30, here. After having to cancel last year's expo due to the pandemic, the council enthusiastically welcomed the fresh produce industry back, and those in attendance were equally happy to see and reconnect with friends and colleagues at the in-person event.

The U.S. Apple Association launched its 2021-22 Apples4Ed initiative — a grant program that supports healthy eating initiatives in public schools across the United States. USApple will fund five $4,000 healthy eating initiatives on campuses in 2022.

John McClung, former president and CEO of the Texas Produce Association (predecessor to TIPA), died Saturday, Oct. 2 in South Texas. Mr. McClung was a leader not only for the Texas produce industry, but for all of fresh produce. Even a decade after his retirement, Mr. McClung is still remembered for his many great achievements during the course of his career. 

BOSTON -- Fresh produce from around the country was on display at the 2021 New England Produce Council expo, held Thursday, Sept. 30, here at the Hynes Convention Center. The trade show was the culmination of the two-day NEPC Produce, Floral & Foodservice Expo.

This year's event drew about 115 exhibitors, according to NEPC Executive Director Laura Sullivan, who saw "good participation on both the attendee side and the exhibitor side."

Starr Ranch Growers is set for fall apple harvest with its new Fair Trade USA authorization. The Wenatchee, WA-based company recently gained certification from Fair Trade USA — an agreement that solidified 3,300 acres in both the Wenatchee and Quincy Custom Apple Packing Facilities. The authorization from Fair Trade USA did not come without collective dedication and persistence to strengthen and grow the existing Starr Ranch Growers core values, sustainability efforts and enhanced company culture.
