Festive fun is more important than ever!

As PMA prepares for its next steps on the path in serving the global fresh produce and floral communities (as part of a new association with United Fresh), I’ve had quite a few members reach out to me with their reflections on experiences they had with PMA over the years, particularly those memories from volunteering with us.

The GIANT Company announced Thursday, Oct. 21 that its newest Philadelphia store, located at 2201 Cottman Avenue at the corner of Bustleton Avenue, will open Friday, Nov. 12 at 8 a.m. The 67,000-square-foot store will operate from 6 a.m. to midnight, seven days a week and employs approximately 150 full- and part-time team members.

Sabita Singh, a grocery veteran with nearly 25 years of experience, has been appointed store manager of the newest GIANT.

A woman’s work is never done. Just ask Myra Gordon. But that’s never bothered her. In fact, she thrives in a busy work environment. After all, one has to when they spend 35 years working at the Hunts Point Produce Market in the Bronx, NY.

With its promotional gear in overdrive, Potandon Produce is taking its newest Green Giant Fresh product, Minute Mashers, straight to consumers via an “all hands on deck” approach to social media and television, according to Carter Bray, company vice president/general manager of variety potatoes.

Bray, along with Potandon Marketing Manager Dan Fitzgerald and Marketing Assistant Brandy Thueson, told The Produce News recently that Minute Mashers are making steady gains in their 2021 rollout.

North Carolina growers produce around 16,000 acres of potatoes per year, making it one of the state’s most important crops during the summer.

Harvest takes place from mid-June through July and sometimes can stretch into early August. While that amount of acreage may not sound like too much, the entire crop is harvested and shipped within a six-week period, so the potato farmers are hard at work all summer long.
