International Fresh Produce Association Co-CEO’s Cathy Burns and Tom Stenzel were joined by industry leaders to share updates about the new produce and floral association. During the briefing, IFPA Executive Committee member Dwight Ferguson shared that the Floral Marketing Alliance will launch with the new association in January 2022. 

The Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act was enacted at the request of the fruit and vegetable industry to promote fair trade in the industry back in 1930, and it established a code for produce companies to follow.

The bill of lading (BL) is the single most important document in international shipping. Every year, 11 billion metric tons of cargo are shipped globally. Approximately 50 percent of these transactions require an original bill of lading.

As a complementary philanthropic partner of the new International Fresh Produce Association, the Foundation for Fresh Produce will be launched with a vision to grow a healthier world through increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables. It was previously announced that Wegman’s Vice President of Produce & Floral Merchandising Martha Hilton would serve as chair of the foundation and on the executive committee of the association.   

PMA and United Fresh leaders provided a series of updates for the new association named International Fresh Produce Association. Co-CEOs of the new association Cathy Burns and Tom Stenzel were joined by executive committee members to share details, including the board of directors. Selecting and recruiting the board of directors was one of the first responsibilities of the newly announced executive committee.
