Officials at Southern Specialties have put a lot of work into developing a company that could provide retailers across North America with a quality line of value-added specialty produce and private label products.

It appears to have paid off handsomely.

Great Place To Work and Fortune magazine have named Wegmans, Target and Publix among the 2023 Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For. This is Wegmans 26th time being named to this prestigious list, this year coming in at No. 4; Target came in at 26, while Publix ranked 91st.

When the family name is also the brand name, it puts a lot more pressure on making sure everything is done correctly. After all, the family’s reputation is at stake.

That is the stance Bill Nardelli Sr. takes when talking about Nardelli Lake View Farms, a Cedarville, NJ-based producer of about 80 different vegetable commodities.

The California Leafy Green Marketing Agreement has been bringing farmers together to make lettuce and leafy greens safer for 17 years. At a meeting on Thursday, March 30, the California LGMA appointed its new advisory board, which will serve for the next two years, and elected new board leadership.

The newly elected board leadership includes Jan Berk of San Miguel Produce as chair; Matt Amaral of D’Arrigo Bros. of California as vice chair and Chris Drew of Ocean Mist farms as secretary-treasurer.

RedLine Solutions announced the availability of MyProduce Professional version 4.0.531, which is an important upgrade with many highly anticipated features.

In 2018, NASA began using PEAKfresh USA’s modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) for produce items being sent to and stored at the International Space Station. Today, five years later, the ISS is still using that packaging to protect its produce and keep its astronauts healthy and fed.

“We’re happy to say that they are still using our product for every shipment of produce sent to the ISS — something that makes us very proud,” said Sally Anderson, vice president of marketing and operations for the Lake Forest, CA-based company.
