Sun World International LLC is strengthening its leadership with three new hires bringing deep backgrounds in the finance, marketing and IT sectors. Joining are Simon Heyrick, chief financial officer, Jennifer (Jen) Sanchez, vice president of marketing, and Deepak Rama, IT director.

The past couple of years have been eating away at profits and some companies are struggling to make ends meet. When profits fail to increase, it drags down business growth, and that isn’t very healthy for the future of any establishment.

Unusual weather patterns in both Peru and Mexico have affected asparagus production and exports, according to the Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association. Specifically, an early March cyclone hit Peru — the first in 40 years. In just one day, the affected regions received a year’s worth of rainfall.

“We are the largest distributor of organic packaged salads on the Eastern Seaboard,” said Mark Pins, director of marketing for the Chelsea, MA-based company. “We wash and pack over a million pounds of baby lettuce and spinach every week, and with that comes an oversupply.”

Walmart recently celebrated the grand opening of a new 2.2 million-square-foot fulfillment center 20 miles northeast of Indianapolis. This next-generation facility is Walmart’s largest fulfillment center to date.

The McCordsville fulfillment center is the second of four next-generation facilities that brings the powerful combination of people, technology and machine learning together to achieve faster shipping and delivery, while increasing Walmart.com order fulfillment capacity.

New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy marked the retirement of New Jersey Department of Agriculture Secretary Douglas Fisher, who served as secretary since 2009 under the Corzine Administration and after 14 years of dedicated service to the state’s agricultural community, retired effective July 1. Assistant Secretary Joe Atchison III will direct the department, assuming the responsibilities of secretary.
