D.J. Forry signs deal to market organic fruit from California Tree Ripe
REEDLEY, CA - "Just as of today, we have an agreement with D.J. Forry to do the sales for us," Mark Nakata of California Tree Ripe in Fresno, CA, told The Produce News on Tuesday, April 19.
"We feel like we have a good synergy with these folks, he said. "We feel that they are people of high integrity, and we have every confidence we will be able to grow our program with them on a very positive basis.
California Tree Ripe is a certified organic packer and shipper that expects to have approximately 165,000 boxes of tree fruit this season.
The Produce News met with Mr. Nakata and Forry salesman Tom Wolfe at the Forry office here shortly after the deal had been inked. Mr. Wolfe said that the practices and technology being used by California Tree ripe growers "to produce a premium piece of fruit with superior flavor [are] something that really interests us.
Mr. Nakata is a managing partner at California Tree Ripe and a partner in a sister company, Beyond Organics, a grower-service company that helps growers develop or improve their organic programs. Beyond Organics deals with - all aspects of cultural practices - from start to finish, including soils, plant nutrition and pest and disease control, with a focus on producing fruit with improved flavor and nutritional value, he said.
The company takes a scientific approach to its cultural practices. It is currently in the process of implementing third-party nutritional analysis to document and build a database on the effects of various practices and other factors on the nutritional value of fruit, he concluded.
