Cherries aren’t just for summer. Reports suggest 2021-22 Chile cherry exports to the United States will see substantial growth, and for the first time will run more than 12 weeks, through February.

Andreas Economou of Tastyfrutti said 5-6 million boxes (25,000-30,000 tons) will be shipped to the U.S. market during the 2021-22 season.

Cherry pricing is anticipated to start out strong and stay steady until around Thanksgiving.

Fall has arrived and that means it’s time to get ready for Chilean cherries.  Chile projects that cherry exports to the U.S. will see substantial growth in 2021-22, and for the first time the season will run more than 12 weeks, from November through February. The Chilean Cherry Committee estimates that nearly 13,000 tons will be shipped to the U.S. market during the 2021-22 season.

Stemilt received new Equitable Food Initiative certifications in August to become one of the first apple, pear and cherry companies to achieve EFI certification of its entire operation. The new certifications bring EFI standards and continuous improvement practices into all Stemilt-owned orchards and warehouse facilities and represent over 3,500 employees.

CMI Orchards anticipates growth in the 2021 cherry crop. Excellent weather conditions, including an absence of significant frost events, have contributed to outstanding quality, great sizing, and 17 percent growth of this year’s crop as compared to 2020.

“We are seeing consistent spread throughout our growing districts, with Skeena and Sweetheart cherries showing exceptional size and quality,” said Joel Hewitt, domestic sales organic manager for the company.

Stemilt will begin harvesting and packing Skylar Rae brand Tip Top cultivar cherries early next week so consumers across the country can enjoy the sweetest cherry you’ll ever eat.
