Ag titan Sergio Cedeño Amador to receive lifetime achievement award
The International Mango Organization has announced that the esteemed agricultural leader Sergio Cedeño Amador will be the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming IMO Global Mango Conference in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Scheduled for March 18-20 at the Ponce Plaza Hotel and Casino, the summit will celebrate Cedeño’s five decades of pioneering leadership in the tropical fruit sector.
A proud graduate of Zamorano University’s Class of 1973, Cedeño has become a legendary figure in his native Ecuador, where he manages Industrial Agrícola Cañas. His career is distinguished by extraordinary productivity milestones, including setting national records for banana and cacao yields. Beyond his technical expertise, he has been a tireless advocate for international trade standards and has served as the president of the Ecuadorian Mango Foundation, helping the nation expand its reach into massive global markets like China.
The IMO Global Mango Conference serves as a critical nexus for CEOs and exporters to address the future of the multi-billion dollar mango industry. This year’s event in the "Pearl of the South" will highlight the resilience of Puerto Rico’s own mango sector while honoring Cedeño’s role in elevating global standards.
Under his management, Hacienda Cañas has become a model of technified agriculture, overseeing more than 1,000 acres of mangoes alongside significant cacao and banana operations. The conference itinerary will also include a visit to one of the world’s largest collections of mango cultivars, emphasizing the genetic diversity necessary for the industry's future.
