NJDA’s efforts are key to safety of New Jersey produce

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Inspection and Grading performs thousands of inspections annually of imported and domestic produce at warehouses, cold storages and distribution centers to ensure that the produce is meeting USDA produce quality standards. What’s more, NJDA’s Fruit and Vegetable Inspection Program provides a consistent supply of high quality produce for distribution to consumers.
Lettuce was brought to the Americas from Europe by Christopher Columbus in the 15th century and has come a long way since that time. Astronauts even tested lettuce in 2016 as part of growing food in space. Consumers love lettuce and purchase large amounts from retailers.
