PSJ rolls out two new items
San Juan Bautista, CA-based Pride of San Juan has announced two new tender leaf products to its foodservice offerings.
The new products -- organic spring mix and organic baby spinach -- are PSJ's first products that are certified organic. The bulk products are available now. Organic spring mix is available in three-pound, 2x1.5-pound and 4x3-pound pillow pack cartons, while organic baby spinach is available in a four-pound pack.
"We are excited to be able to offer these organic products to the foodservice market," said Stephen Wyrick, chief executive officer and owner of Pride of San Juan. "Offering organic was the natural evolution in our foodservice product line."
Doug Wyrick, head of marketing and research and development for PSJ, said that spring mix and baby spinach were chosen first for the organic line because they are best sellers. "We thought they'd get traction in the marketplace as we explore other options," he said.
In a press release, the company said that it "has always been a promoter of sustainable agriculture and good agricultural practices. With frequent crop rotations and documented soil, pest control and fertilization practices, switching to organic is culturally compatible" with its already aggressive food safety and environmental programs.
The company plans on offering both certified-organic and sustainable ag-certified products. "Quality, service and selection are the cornerstones of our business," said Dan Holt, sales director at PSJ. "The addition of these organic items allows us to offer a broader range of products."
