Former Ocean Mist executive launches marketing company
MONTEREY, CA In mid-April, Maggie Bezart left a high-profile position as vice president of marketing and sales for Castroville, CA-based Ocean Mist Farms. She has resurfaced with a consulting business Maggie Bezart Marketing Services aimed at the fresh produce industry.
The 25-year produce industry veteran's stated mission is to be "the most productive marketing service company for the produce industry." Her services will include assisting companies in marketing, advertising, and setting goals and strategies for growing their businesses.
She launched with a couple of accounts in tow and others under consideration. Salinas, CA-based Coastline Produce a grower with a strong presence in foodservice will utilize her services to help it grow its visibility in retail and wholesale, Ms. Bezart said. Lompoc, CA-based Jordon/Baroda Farms the single largest grower of red artichokes is another account on Ms. Bezarts opening roster.
In launching her business, Ms. Bezart has partnered with Salinas-based FreeStyle Communications Inc. and Raess Design. FreeStyle is a full-service advertising, marketing, graphic design and web site development agency. Prior to launching the service, FreeStyle President Dan McDonnal was vice president of sales for Green Giant Fresh and director of marketing for Growers Vegetable Express now named Growers Express.
Mr. McDonnal said that while the service provided by many web designers ends at creation of the web site, Freestyle dispenses information to its customers. Los Angeles-based full-service graphics house Raess Design provides high-end graphic design such as that which may be used for packaging, in contrast with Freestyles graphic design which is more geared toward advertising. In essence, Ms. Bezart is offering the equivalent of an in-house marketing service without the fuss and muss, she said.
Mr. McDonnal said that produce companies have to stop selling produce and instead sell a solution. As for the existing FreeStyle company and the partnership with Ms. Bezart, Mr. McDonnal said that he and Ms. Bezart will work together and uniquely apart.
Ms. Bezart said that the people involved in Maggie Bezart Marketing Services are such a creative group and that they will look for ways to revolutionize the industry.
The web site for Maggie Bezart Marketing Services is under construction. She can be reached at 831/689-0962 or by e-mail at [email protected]. Freestyle can be found at www.freestylecomm.com.
