Mexican greenhouse operators form alliance
Three Mexican greenhouse operations have joined to form a new marketing company.
Agros S.A. de C.V. in Queretaro, Cris-P Greenhouses S.A. de C.V. in Sinaloa and Sonora, and Agrizar-Comercializadora Zarattini S.A. de C.V. in Guanajuato have formed a new venture called Greenhouse Produce Co. LLC, located in Mission Valley, TX. The new organization will be marketing all greenhouse produce grown by the three independent producers and affiliated companies.
Both Agros and Cris-P have been producing quality greenhouse tomatoes for over a decade, while Agrizar-Zarattini, which started operations three years ago, has specialized in colored bell pepper production. Additionally, Cris-P has been a leading producer of seedless cucumbers since the late 1980s from its facility in the Culiacan Valley, Sinaloa.
The three companies represent over 150 acres of high-tech hydroponic greenhouse facilities, ranging from steel-and-glass structures to computerized, cooled facilities with year-round production capabilities for all crops.
The formation of the new marketing company comes at a time when retailers are looking to grower-shippers for answers on subjects ranging from supply chain management, to flavor and quality consistency, to food safety and traceability. As grower-shippers, the partners of GPC are looking to close the gap between the farm and the consumer with this new venture.
