With July 4th quickly approaching, the Georgia watermelon harvest season is nearing its peak production time. 

“Now is the time to go visit your grocery store or local farmers market and purchase a fresh Georgia watermelon,” said Georgia Watermelon Association President, Rob Greene.  A watermelon grower in Arabi, GA, Greene said this production season has produced a historically sweet, crisp and delicious product. 

In celebration of National Pollinator Week, The GIANT Co. today announced it has completed a seven-acre pollinator-friendly solar field at its corporate headquarters at 1149 Harrisburg Pike in Carlisle, PA. This initiative is the first of its kind for a grocery retailer and creates a synergistic environment which contributes both to clean energy and support for bee and pollinator populations needed within the agriculture industry.

On Friday, June 19, nearly 4,000 tons of fresh fruit products from South Africa arrived in the Port of Philadelphia. The M/V Everest Bay, operated by Seatrade, docked at the Gloucester Marine Terminal in Gloucester City, NJ, and unloaded some 3,800 pallets of clementines and navel oranges, kicking off the start of the summer citrus season for local consumers. 

While I was doing some shopping with my wife in our local supermarket, a frustrated customer was angrily telling me his experience as he pointed to a one-way traffic decal on the floor.

“I wanted an item in the coffee section that was a few feet away from entering the aisle,” he explained. “A store clerk told me the aisle was one-way traffic only. I had to go all the way around down one aisle and up the next just to get the coffee which was only a simple reach.”

A panel of experts reported that organic produce is outperforming the conventional produce category at retail during the pandemic.
