With the demand for greenhouse grown produce continuing to increase, DelFrescoPure is consistently looking for ways to become more sustainable and ensure high-quality produce is available year-round. Implementing a Cogeneration power plant is the most efficient way to achieve that goal. As of fall 2021, DelFrescoPure will be increasing its pre-existing Cogen system by 6.5 MW, for a total of 10+ MW across their facilities.

Stemilt will begin harvesting and packing Skylar Rae brand Tip Top cultivar cherries early next week so consumers across the country can enjoy the sweetest cherry you’ll ever eat. Stemilt marketing director, Brianna Shales is excited about this year’s crop potentials and knows consumers are looking forward to the super-sweet and firm cherry. 

Vick Family Farms, based in Wilson, NC, added bi-color sweet corn to its rotation last year, and with the shortage of corn in Florida and Georgia, it seemed to hit the market at the perfect time, harvesting the week before and during the Fourth of July.

Anthony D’Ottavio grew up in a New Jersey farming family and had no doubt, at a very young age, that he would follow the family legacy into the business.

“I’m a farm kid,” he said. “I was born on the farm and have been working on it since I was a little kid. I remember sitting at the window every day watching my grandfather pass by on the tractor. I was born and raised in Vineland, NJ, and have no plans on leaving. I love Vineland.”

Three years ago, I wrote in this column what it would be like if a mom, our average customer, ran our produce departments. I suggested that smart merchandising, a little bit of marketing, and plenty of convenience would increase customer loyalty and in return, sales.
