As the coastal California growing season winds down the roller coaster in temperatures looks to continue. Previous extended heat across California has taken a toll on these late-season supplies. Disease and insect pressure are on the rise in the fields with heat-related problems such as seeders and weaker texture.

Erin Sigrist has joined FMI’s state government relations team as the association’s new director of state government affairs. In her role, Sigrist will be responsible for providing expertise on state legislation, laws and regulatory actions for FMI members; engage with state and local industry partners; and represent FMI and its members with external stakeholders.

Beekenkamp Group and Dümmen Orange are in talks to explore opportunities for a closer partnership in Marketing & Sales, R&D and production. An Beekenkamp and Anthony Christiaanse, the respective CEOs of Beekenkamp Group and Dümmen Orange, signed a Letter of Intent to this end.

SpartanNash has entered into an asset purchase agreement with Markham Enterprises, Markham Oil and its affiliates, a chain of convenience stores and fuel distributor in mid-Michigan. Following the closing of this transaction in early December, SpartanNash will continue employment of Markham Enterprises' team members. This is the company's second acquisition this month and third of the year.
