New Limeco to discuss Florida avocado program at Southern Exposure

Eddie Caram, general manager of New Limeco LLC, a Primus Labs certified packing house operating in Princeton, FL, noted the SEPC’s Southern Exposure Conference is an important show for the company and he’s looking forward to traveling to Tampa for this year’s event.

“We plan to attend and maintain our presence in the industry as one of the leading importers, packers, and shippers of tropicals in South Florida, primarily Florida green skin avocados,” he said. “We own and manage about 1,100 acres of Florida avocados, which run from June to mid- March.”

The company will exhibit at booth No. 802 and attendees who stop by can see the quality of its products, its new packaging and learn about the products themselves.

NewLimeco ProduceRetailer picture “This show allows us the opportunity to showcase our products and allows us to connect with past, present and future customers, which is always our hope for the show,” Caram said. “We are hoping to increase our customer base and expand our product line.”

As one of the few packing houses that have Florida avocados varieties this late in the season, he noted New Limeco will be talking to people at the show about making longer-term commitments and also discussing some new projects the company is currently working on. 

“We have some exciting new partnerships in place with growers for limes, papaya, plantains and other vegetables which we are working with,” Caram said. “There is no strategy for the show, we love what we do, we are knowledgeable of our products and we take great pride in providing only the best products for our customers and it shows when people come to see us at our booth.”

New Limeco has had great success at past shows and Caram noted as he reconnects with past customers, he always gains new business from those looking for someone new to work with.

Part of the company’s success is that New Limeco is always evolving with new technology, new growers, grove maintenance and striving to always maintain and improve its food-safety and OSHA practices.

“New Limeco has developed a food-safety program that best fits the industries standards,” Caram said. “Labeling each inbound/outbound container with a PTI label (Produce Traceability Initiative), it helps to trace and track a product throughout the supply chain. New Limeco is determined to provide the best service when it comes to traceability. Certifying team members with the GS1 Standards for Food Traceability online course.”

Also within New Limeco’s food-safety program, the recall system is tested and verified every six months. In completing “Mock Recalls,” the company ensures that its traceability program is effective.

Additionally, an “Approved Supplier List” is in place to make sure those doing business with New Limeco are also following the industries standards. 

“Food safety and traceability measures are in place to ensure the safety of the end consumer,” Caram said.

“In the event of a recall, these measures provide the means to trace back the product to the origin of the contamination and insure that the problem is corrected, no other product is shipped and no others are contaminated.”
