Frello succeeding in first season

RIO RICO, AZ— As Mother Nature angrily stirred in Mexico this fall and winter, it created a remarkable season to launch a produce company.

That has been Willy Martinez’ position at Frello. But he smiles, shrugs and expresses relief that his partners, the Stabropoulos family in Culiacan, have had the expertise and good fortune to overcome rain, clouds and humid weather this season.

Martinez is a partner and Inzunza works in operations support.The Stabropoulos family produces a large volume of vegetables in Culiacan and also grows in Tula, Tamaulipas.

Frello received its first product on Dec. 18. “We’re a really, really new company,” Martinez noted. He is from a very successful produce family in Culiacan and over the last 16 years, gained good experiences elsewhere before his first venture into owning and operating a company.

“We are excited. We will rock and roll this season. We are thankful for the support of our customers and we look forward to growing the program. We have key people in key places and I’m thinking we will become large in our growth very fast.”

Initially, Frello is shipping through Nogales, but the firm will soon be shipping to the East Coast via south Texas entry points. “For the best customer logistics, we need to be competitive with our competition and with Florida.”

He noted that Tamaulipas product would especially be shipped through McAllen.

Key commodities distributed by Frello are Roma and grape tomatoes, slicer cucumbers and Bell peppers.
