Jessica Crowther new marketing admin assistant at CPAC/Colorado Potatoes

A familiar name in the San Luis Valley potato industry recently joined the Colorado Potato Administrative Committee/Colorado San Luis Valley Potatoes staff.JESSICACROWTHERCPAC

Jessica Crowther, daughter of Lynette and the late Ron Crowther, started her new position May 7, bringing to the job not only a bachelor's degree in business administration and marketing classroom experience but also a lifelong relationship to the region’s potato community.

Her father was a longtime grower for Monte Vista Potato Growers, and her mother is the bookkeeper/office manager for the cooperative.

One of four sisters, Jessica was born in Monte Vista and raised on a potato farm near that town. She graduated from Sargent High School in 2014 and went on to Adams State University in Alamosa, CO.

“I took a lot of marketing classes and graduated with an accounting minor,” Crowther said. “Growing up on the farm, I know the industry from that perspective. I’m learning it from a different angle now at CPAC.”

The new hire hit the ground running in early May, working with Assistant Director Linda Weyers and Executive Director Jim Ehrlich as CPAC prepares for its annual dinner in June. She said plans for September’s 2018 Potato Festival are under way.

“I am also working to keep up on our social media posts,” she said. Colorado Potatoes’ top platform is Facebook, and the marketing arm of CPAC can also be followed on Pinterest, Twitter, Instagram and LinkedIn.

She told The Produce News she hopes “to bring a better understanding of what the farmers face” to her position, adding, “My long-term goal is to stay in the potato industry and keep that legacy going.”
