Independence and a debt of gratitude

On July 4th, America celebrates 242 years of independence with fireworks, picnics and parades. It’s a special holiday when the nation can revel in the incredible freedoms that it is blessed to enjoy.

In this edition, we report on the growth of the Memorial Day Flowers Foundation that honors those who’ve paid the price for our freedom by placing 460,000 flowers on the graves of veterans across the country. This tribute is made possible through the efforts of all segments of the floral industry.

Additionally, Bill Prescott writes about freesia — an unsung floral hero; we announce a Midwest wholesaler’s Roses for Soldiers fundraiser; we update the progress at Florida’s Airglades Airport, which could become a new perishables cargo hub; we introduce you to the American Princess Bouquet from the Sun Valley Group; we preview the upcoming SAF Annual Convention and 1-Day Profit Blast, WFFSA’s Management Institute, the ASCFG National Conference and much more.

So on the Fourth of July, pray for the perfect summer day — when the sun is shining, the breeze is blowing, the birds are singing, and the lawnmower is broken. But while you enjoy the fruits of your freedom, remember those who paid it forward with their lives.
