Strong sweet potato harvest with expanded organic crop

Nash Produce is one of the larger distributors of sweet potatoes in North Carolina. Being in a green-tag state allows Nash Produce to ship sweet potatoes throughout the United States, as well as to Mexico, Canada and the United Kingdom.

The 2017 harvest season has begun for Nash Produce as of late September, and is looking great. The company expects to harvest approximately the same yield as generated in 2016.

The demand for organic products continues to increase, so Nash Produce is working to meet the need of its consumers. the company ships Covington (orange), Bonita (white), and Murasaki (purple) all year long.

Covingtons The sweet potatoes are sold under the following brand names: Cajun Gold, Nash’s Pride, and Nash’s Gold. They are shipped individually in 40-pound boxes, which are displayed in the produce section of supermarkets.

Nash Produce also provides several bagged options, including two-, three-, five-, 6.5-, eight- and 10-pound bags for purchase.

The Steamtable Sweet Potato bag allows the consumer to cook several sweet potatoes at a time in the microwave, and only takes eight minutes to prepare an easy side dish for any meal.

The 2017 harvest will be the first time that the Hagan, a 12-lane sorting machine, will be used at Nash.

The machine takes a picture of every sweet potato to determine size, shape and weight. The machine determines which lane the sweet potato will be sent down for packaging, according to the client’s needs. This extremely fast system allows for more accurate sorting and quicker packaging.

Nash Produce has increased storage capacity this year by adding new curing rooms.

In addition, the sweet potato company is also in the process of rebranding. The relaunch is targeted for early 2018. This rebranding effort will include all new packaging.

Moving forward, Nash Produce’s goal is to educate the consumer on the importance of using sweet potatoes to maintain a healthy diet. This includes the fact that sweet potaotes are available all year long — not just the holidays.
